On Dec. 11, 2019, DHHS released for comments the draft provider manual and application process for care management for people with Behavioral Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DDs) who will be served by Tailored Plans. While the implementation of managed care has been suspended as legislative action is needed to move forward, the Department continues to work on the design of Tailored Plans.

It is apparent from the number of thoughtful and meaningful comments received that stakeholders are invested and want to assist the Department to design a strong integrated care management program to address the unique needs of children and adults with Behavioral Health and I/DDs. The Department is revising the draft manual and will be issuing an updated version shortly.

Although the application process was opened in December, the manual wasn’t finalized and changes to the manual may impact the way providers and stakeholders choose to respond to the application questions. Because of this, the Department will be extending the initial application deadline for providers to Feb. 21, 2020, and will alter subsequent timelines. Stay tuned for additional information. Any questions and comments should be sent to Medicaid.transformation@dhhs.nc.gov.
