The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services was allocated administrative funds to launch a pilot program targeted to improve equal communication access for Medicaid and NC Health Choice Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing beneficiaries in health care settings with NC Medicaid providers.

The goal for ensuring communication access is to improve the frequency of important health care visits, reduce incidences of misdiagnoses and confusion about instructions, and improve follow-up care and the overall health outcomes of Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing beneficiaries.

Medicaid providers needing assistance with scheduling and payment for interpreting services for Medicaid and NC Health Choice Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing beneficiaries may contact the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) for details about this pilot program.

Medicaid and NC Health Choice beneficiaries may also contact DSDHH for assistance with services provided through this pilot program.
