In October 2021, NC Medicaid will implement a time-weighted reimbursement methodology for nursing home (NH) providers. This methodology will involve using all assessments that were active within a quarter to calculate a case mix index. The case mix is a means to identify acuity differences among residents within a NH’s population.
The transition to a time-weighted reimbursement methodology will replace the point-in-time reimbursement methodology that NC Medicaid currently uses to calculate a NH’s case mix index, which involves using the last resident assessment with a target date on, or prior to, a specified quarter. The fourth quarter of 2021 (Oct. 1 – Dec. 31) will be the initial time-weighted reporting quarter. The fourth quarter case mix index will be used for the rates effective April 1, 2022.
To assist NH providers in making the transition to a time-weighted reimbursement methodology, NC Medicaid, in partnership with Myers and Stauffer, will present three live training webinars for NH providers. The webinars will be conducted by Myers and Stauffer and are scheduled for:
- July 13, 2021 (10 a.m. – noon);
- July 21, 2021 (1 – 3 p.m.); and
- July 29, 2021 (10 a.m. – noon).
Registration instructions for the webinars, as well as recordings following the webinars, are available on the Myers and Stauffer website at www.myersandstauffer.com under Provider Resources, North Carolina.
