Minimum Data Set Focus Training Webinars for Nursing Facility Providers

Beginning in July 2022, Myers and Stauffer, LC, will present focused training webinars for nursing facility providers on the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Validation Review Program and the required supportive documentation guidelines. Additional webinars will be presented every two months.

Posting of the MDS Validation Review 10-Day Administrator Letters to the Myers and Stauffer Web Portal

Myers and Stauffer began posting the MDS Validation Review 10-Day Administrator Letters to their secure web portal on May 27, 2022. In addition, the 10-Day Administrator Letters will continue to be mailed to the nursing home providers by the United States Postal Service. The 10-Day Administrator Letters can be accessed in the Myers and Stauffer Client Portal. Contact the Myers and Stauffer Helpdesk at 800-763-2278 for additional information.

Unsupported Annual MDS Validation Reviews for Nursing Home Providers

Beginning June 11, 2022, Myers and Stauffer will schedule a follow-up MDS on-site review for all nursing home providers with 40% or greater unsupported annual reviews. The follow-up review will be scheduled no earlier than 120 calendar days after the date of the exit interview.

Myers and Stauffer will schedule an on-site MDS review within one calendar year for all nursing home providers with a greater than 25% to 39% unsupported MDS annual review.

Ending of Telehealth Originating Site Fee Code for Nursing Home Providers

As part of the flexibilities implemented due to COVID-19, NC Medicaid temporarily allowed Nursing Home providers to bill for the originating site fee for telehealth. Beginning July 1, 2022, Nursing Home providers will not be allowed to bill for the originating site fee, due to low utilization by nursing home providers of the originating site fee code and the end of the flexibilities period.

End of Temporary Suspensions of Level I and Level II Assessments for New Nursing Home Admissions

As part of the flexibilities implemented due to COVID-19, NC Medicaid suspended the requirement of Level I and Level II Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASRRs) for new nursing home admissions as well as the requirement of a PASRR number on the prior approval (PA).

Beginning Sept. 1, 2022, Level I and Level II PASRRs for new nursing home admissions and a PASRR number on the prior approval will be required due to the end of the flexibilities period.

Resumption of NC PASRR Face-to-Face Level II Evaluations

As part of the flexibilities implemented due to COVID-19, NC Medicaid suspended the requirement for face-to-face PASRR Level II evaluations. Beginning July 1, 2022, NC Medicaid will require PASRR Level II evaluations to be conducted face-to-face.
