Effective Nov. 1, 2023, NC Medicaid is adding coverage for HCPCS code A0998 (Ambulance response and treatment, no transport). This will allow ambulance providers to treat and stabilize a beneficiary at the scene and receive reimbursement when that service does not result in transport from the scene. A0998 should only be billed with origin/destination ambulance modifier combination SS (Scene to Scene) or RR (Residence to Residence).
