Carolina ACCESS Enrollment Refresher

Individual provider enrollment and Additional Managed Care Options

Carolina ACCESS (CA) provider participation is intended for organizations and individual sole proprietors with a qualifying taxonomy. It is not necessary for an individual provider affiliating to a CA participating organization to separately enroll as a CA provider under their individual NPI. When an individual provider is confirmed to be affiliated with a currently enrolled CA organization at the same address, CA participation under the individual provider’s NPI is denied.

Providers serving NC Medicaid Direct beneficiaries and approved for CA are encouraged to contact Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) to join their provider network. CCNC offers care management services to NC Medicaid Direct beneficiaries as well as additional support for primary care providers. To explore options, call 919-745-2350 or email CCNCSupport@communitycarenc.org.

Since CA participating providers are automatically approved as Advanced Medical Home (AMH) Tier 2 providers for Medicaid managed care, participating providers are encouraged to contract with NC Medicaid Managed Care Prepaid Health Plans (PHPs) to serve as an AMH provider.

The AMH program is the primary vehicle for care management services for Medicaid managed care beneficiaries. Providers decide their level of involvement based on their AMH Tier status. For more information, please see the Medicaid Health Plan Contacts and Resources and Advanced Medical Home webpage, or the AMH Tier Attestation Job Aid.
