North Carolina Medicaid has made important updates to the training requirements outlined in the Tailored Care Management (TCM) Provider Manual. These changes are part of NC Medicaid’s ongoing efforts to streamline training expectations and support provider efficiency while maintaining high standards of care.
Key Updates
Removal of Trainings from the TCM Provider Manual
NC Medicaid has removed several trainings from the previously published list in the TCM Provider Manual. These changes will take effect prior to the release of the next iteration of the manual.
Revisions to Bundle 1 and Bundle 2
The training requirements in Bundle 1 and Bundle 2 have been significantly reduced. This adjustment is intended to make core trainings more efficient while ensuring core competencies are maintained. The launch date for the changes is Jan. 5, 2026.
Refresher and Elective Curriculum
NC Medicaid worked with Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) to identify 34 trainings and/or sessions that will comprise the refresher and elective curriculum. These offerings are designed to support continued professional development and reinforce key skills. Effective Jan. 5, 2026, care managers, care manager extenders and care manager supervisors will have to complete six hours of refresher trainings annually. Care managers, care manager extenders and supervisors have the full year to complete the annual refreshers. Tailored Plans, Advanced Medical Home (AMH+) and Care Management Agencies (CMAs) are allowed flexibility around the timing of the refresher courses as long as they correlate with the date of deployment or date of hire.
These updates will be reflected in the next version of the TCM Provider Manual. Providers should implement the updates immediately.
