The NC Medicaid Family Planning Program is designed to reduce unplanned pregnancies and improve the well-being of children and families in North Carolina. Family planning, reproductive health and contraceptive services are provided to eligible beneficiaries. The program has no age or gender limits. All services are free and confidential.
Note: If you have had a sterilization procedure (a vasectomy, hysterectomy or tubes tied) or have completed menopause you are not eligible for Family Planning Medicaid.
Family Planning Medicaid can help:
Learn which preventative health screenings would be best for you. Develop a plan with your provider so that you know the timeline of their recommendations.
Whether you want to wait a couple years before becoming a parent, want a little more time between pregnancies or you know pregnancy is not a part of your plan, your provider can work with you to choose a birth control method that best meets your needs.
Family planning services can help men, women and people of all genders who are interested in becoming pregnant. Ask your provider about what you can do to make it easier for you to become pregnant, have a healthier pregnancy and better outcomes for yourself, your partner and your baby.
If not treated sexually transmitted infections can have serious health impacts, including infertility and cancer. Some of the most common sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhea and chlamydia, often have no symptoms, so it is important to get tested regularly, even if you feel okay.
If any health concerns come up at your physical, your provider can refer you to other providers and resources to help you with those needs.
