NC Medicaid announced in September 2020 that the Community Alternatives Program for Children (CAP/C) §1915(c) Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver application would expire. The CAP/C waiver will expire on Feb. 28, 2022. NC Medicaid has extended its deadline to February 2022 to send the renewed waiver application to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to request approval of the CAP/C waiver for another five years.
To ensure the continuity of services offered through the CAP/C waiver while the renewal waiver is being approved, NC Medicaid will submit an extension request to CMS to continue the operations of the CAP/C with utilization and approval limits consistent with the fifth year of the waiver approval period. An updated CAP/C waiver renewal timeline is available on the NC Medicaid CAP/C webpage.
Stakeholder Engagement Opportunity
Stakeholder engagement activities consisting of a public comment period, an open webinar and a small workgroup were held from September 2020 – May 2021. The feedback from these engagements was compiled and analyzed, resulting in recommendations approved to be incorporated in the renewed waiver for CMS’ approval.
A stakeholder webinar will be held on Dec. 14, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to share the recommendations and planned changes to the CAP/C waiver program. To register to participate in this webinar, use the link below. When you register, instructions will be provided on how to listen to the discussion.
