Optional State Assessment Training

The first training session will be conducted on June 21, 2023, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is ending support for Resource Utilization Group (RUG) levels III and IV on federally required assessments for patients residing in Nursing Facilities (NF) and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) as of Oct. 1, 2023. Additional information regarding the transition is available in Medicaid bulletin article Patient Driven Payment Model and the Implementation of the Optional State Assessment published on May 2, 2023.

Training on the completion of the OSA will be conducted by the Resident Assessment Coordinator (RAI), NC Division of Health Service Regulations (DHSR). Refer to the NCDHSR Training page or call the RAI Coordinator, NCDHSR, Nursing Home Licensure and Certification Section at 919-855-4520 for information regarding training dates and locations.  

Training on the Supportive Documentation Guidelines for the OSA will be conducted by Myers and Stauffer, Minimum Data Set (MDS) Validation Review Program for NC Medicaid.
