2021-2023 Annual Quality Report

NCDHHS is pleased to announce the release of the 2021-2023 NC Medicaid Annual Quality Report.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is pleased to present the 2021-2023 Annual Quality Report. The Annual Quality Report evaluates NC Medicaid’s performance on select quality and survey measures aligned with the three aims and six goals identified in the 2023 NC Medicaid Managed Care Quality Strategy (see Figure 1). Featuring performance across 37 quality measures and 12 survey measures, the 2021-2023 Annual Quality Report provides a comprehensive look at care delivery, quality and beneficiary experience.

Measures were divided into different sections based on relevance to one of the six goals and subsequent objectives outlined in the Quality Strategy. For each measure, the report includes additional context about that specific health topic, why NC Medicaid uses the measure in its quality efforts, a graph featuring NC Medicaid’s performance and an interpretation of results. When possible, NC Medicaid’s performance is compared to national performance and trends.

In addition to presenting NC Medicaid’s performance and highlighting both achievements and opportunities for continued progress, the report also features initiatives, led by NCDHHS and its partners, that aim to enhance the quality of care delivered to beneficiaries. These initiatives can be found in light blue boxes throughout the report and range from pediatric dental programs to financial incentives related to reducing health disparities.
