This bulletin applies to NC Medicaid Direct and NC Medicaid Managed Care.
Due to a reported shortage of the Lantus SoloStar pen, NC Medicaid has implemented an off-cycle change to the Preferred Drug List (PDL). Basaglar® U-100 KwikPen® has moved from Non-Preferred to Preferred status, effective July 24, 2026. Lantus SoloStar pen remains co-preferred on the PDL.
Providers can view the updated PDL on the NC Medicaid website.
This change ensures beneficiaries have continued access to long-acting insulin during the shortage.
