In response to CDC recommendation regarding non-aerosolizing dental treatment during COVID-19, NC Medicaid is reminding dentists of the prescription fluoride products for patients at high-risk for caries.

NC Medicaid is implementing temporary clinical policy revisions that will allow dentists to provide additional services to Medicaid and NC Health Choice beneficiaries. These temporary policy changes were applied in the NCTracks system with a retroactive effective date of March 10, 2020.
SPECIAL BULLETIN COVID-19 #36 replaces in its entirety SPECIAL BULLETIN COVID-19 #21: Telehealth Provisions - Outpatient Specialized Therapies and Dental Services. Changes are to F. Place of Service for Outpatient Specialized Therapy and for Dental Services, and includes new teledentistry codes and guidance.

The Division of Health Benefits (NC Medicaid) has received approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to increase rates for dental services.

Effective with date of service Jan. 1, 2019, the following dental procedure codes were added for the NC Medicaid and Health Choice Dental Programs. These additions are a result of the Current Dental Terminology (CDT) 2019 American Dental Association (ADA) code updates. Clinical Coverage Policy 4A, Dental Services will be updated to reflect these changes.

Effective with date of service Jan. 1, 2018, the following dental procedure codes were added for the N.C. Medicaid and Health Choice Dental Programs. These additions are a result of updates to the Current Dental Terminology (CDT) 2018 American Dental Association (ADA) Code.
