The Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults (CAP/DA) is an NC Medicaid program that helps adults (age 18 and older) with serious health conditions get care at home instead of moving to a nursing home. Services provide extra support to help them live independently.
CAP/DA Eligibility
To get CAP/DA services, a person must:
- Be a disabled adult aged 18 or older
- Meet a level of care (based on a medical review)
- Need at least one CAP/DA home and community-based service (based on a needs assessment)
The person must also qualify for long-term care NC Medicaid in one of these groups before getting services:
- Medicaid for the Aged (MAA)
- Medicaid for the Blind (MAB)
- Medicaid for the Disabled (MAD)
- Health Care for Workers with Disabilities (HCWD)
The person must be enrolled in NC Medicaid Direct to get CAP/DA services. Some people might not qualify for Medicaid to receive CAP/DA due to their disability or income.
Some adults who get CAP/DA services may have to pay an out-of-pocket cost called a deductible. This cost depends on the person's income.
