Personal Care Services (PCS) is a service that helps people with daily tasks like eating, getting dressed, taking a bath, using the bathroom and moving around. These services are given by trained helpers who work for licensed home care agencies or adult care homes. PCS can be provided in a person’s own home or in a place where they live with help, like an adult care home.

Eligibility for PCS

To get PCS, a person must:

• Have a NC Medicaid card
• Have a medical condition, disability or memory problem
• Need help with daily tasks

Assessment Process

An assessment (an in-person visit done by NC Medicaid or someone they choose) is used to decide if someone can get PCS. A special plan is made for each person based on what they need.
To qualify, a person must need help with:

• Three (3) out of five (5) daily tasks (with some help), or
• Two (2) daily tasks, and one (1) needs a lot of help, or
• Two (2) daily tasks, and one (1) needs full help.
