A nursing facility is a safe place where people live to receive daily medical care and help with everyday activities. It is for people who cannot get all the care they need at home.
In a nursing facility, nurses, doctors, and other healthcare staff work together to make sure residents get the medicine, therapy, and support they need. Each resident has a care plan that is made by a team of different healthcare workers to meet their needs and help them get better.
Licensed nurses and doctors at the facility oversee the care. However, a nursing facility does not offer the same level of medical treatment and support as a hospital.
Eligibility
People who apply for or receive NC Medicaid and meet the financial and medical rules for nursing facility care can get nursing facility services.
The local Department of Social Services (DSS) in the county where the person lives decides if they meet the money requirements. A special NC Medicaid review team decides if they meet the medical needs.
If a person has both Medicare and Medicaid, Medicare is billed first for the services.
